College shut, work boycott in hospital

The authorities of the capital’s Suhrawardy Medical College closed the institution sine die yesterday following Tuesday’s clash between students and residents of Sher-e-Bangla Agriculture University staff quarters.
The students of the medical college had to vacate their dormitory by 11:00am yesterday.
The officials and employees of the hospital also observed a two-hour-long work abstention yesterday protesting Tuesday night’s incident, and demanded apprehension and punishment of those who attacked the students and doctors, vandalised at least 15 dormitory rooms, TV room and the canteen.
The emergency department was closed for about two hours due to the work abstention of the officials and employees.
Sub-Inspector Tanvir Hasan of Sher-e-Banglanagar Police Station said three cases were filed with his station against 10-12 outsiders and a number of unidentified people in connection with attacking the students of the college and vandalism on Tuesday.
