Monsoon celebration in Khagrachhari

June 21, 2010

Surcharcha, an organisation of Khagrachhari town, recently celebrated Borsha (rainy season) with a vibrant cultural programme at its premises.
The programme started with around a hundred children rendering a song that depicted the changes in nature during monsoon — new blossoms, foliage, and the overall lush green in the surrounding.
The child artistes also presented dances, recitation and a skit to celebrate the season. Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Rahed Hossein inaugurated the cultural programme as special guest.
Earlier, Surcharcha held a discussion on “Borsha and Bangali Shangskriti” at the venue with its director Bidhan Roy Biswas in the chair. Sadar Upazila Chairman Mohammad Shaney Alam was the chief guest.
The chief guest said, “Monsoon has a deep impact on our life, culture and even our way of thinking. Recurring references to the season can be found in our literature and music. We have to celebrate the season from heart.”
Among others, Saiful Islam; Upazila Secondary Education Officer Babul Chandra Nath; The Daily Star Correspondent Jasim Majumder and Khagrachhari Hill District Councillor Mohammad Shahabuddin Mia spoke at the programme.
